This local Bohemian luxe fashion accessories line is set to trend all summer long.

Fremantle-based Zahir Lifestyle’s new ‘Wandering Souls’ collection will be available in Perth boutiques this month, so we chatted to owner and head designer Samantha Washer about turning her passion for creating quality designs into a business.

Sam started her nationally distributed resort wear label, Zahir, around nine years ago – prior to having her three kids with her high school sweetheart Jamie (who is a design aficionado himself as director of DesignFARM). “After many years working in fashion and traveling the world, it was a natural step to start my own business designing beautiful wares the way I wanted,” Sam says.

The brand evolved while she was juggling babies, moving into accessories and an online shop. “With my youngest now beyond two I have decided to re-launch with Zahir Lifestyle, a bohemian luxe travel accessories label inspired by wanderlust, the beach and sun,” she says. “It reflects the colours of my home town, Perth, and the details and beauty I discovered on my travels.”

Being a Perth-based fashion brand has been logistically beneficial as it’s a straight shoot up to their production hub in Bali, however Sam is clear on the important role it has played for her personally. “The coastal vibes and laid back atmosphere of Fremantle are a real inspiration for my own bohemian style and there is an amazing supportive, creative community here,” Sam says. “Everyone is so willing to help each other out and keen to collaborate, there is no ego!”

The debut ‘Wandering Souls’ range is a high-end collection of travel bags and accessories.

This production method means each piece is truly unique, which ultimately renders the range more covetable. “Each collection we produce moving forward will have our signature bohemian-inspired detailing, be it stud work, tassels or braiding and so on,” Sam says. “I really feel we are filling an untapped niche in the travel accessories market.”

Serving its fashion with a side of conscience, the label is also working with a family-run factory adopting ethical practices to produce their collections. “I want to give back so I’ve partnered with The Bali Street Kids Project ( and $5.00 from each of our travel bags sold will go directly to this incredible charity,” Sam says. “Our customers can enjoy owning a beautiful, high quality piece knowing that it has been made with love, and their generosity is being returned to community.”

Zahir Lifestyle is currently working in a second collection ‘Island Hopper’, which is due to launch February 2020. “Keep your eyes peeled as it won’t disappoint!” Sam says. “While we’ve been discovering a new international customer base via Instagram (@zahirlifestyle) and our online presence, we are hoping to expand our home grown following with the support of national boutiques and a stronger online community next year.”
