13 August 2020: Emerging craft gin label Perth Gin is proud to have secured a Double Gold medal at the prestigious 2020 SIP Awards, a consumer-judged competition for excellence in international spirits. This is the third medal for excellence that Perth Gin has received since its launch.
The only international competition of its kind to be judged solely by consumers, the SIP Awards celebrate the industry’s finest tasting spirits, of which there were a record 984 entries this year.
The Double Gold medals were earned in a double blind-tasting, with judges swayed by Perth Gin’s warming boronia and lemon myrtle flavours, a style reflecting Western Australia’s renowned botanical offerings that are unique to Australia’s flora profile.
Perth Gin’s founder, Michael Hickinbotham says the recognition shows that Perth’s emerging distilling industry is one to watch.
“WA was a driver behind Australia’s growth in the past 20 years in boutique beers.
“Now the State has reinforced its already global leadership in both world-class wines and boutique beers, by taking a leading position in the emerging and rapidly growing gin segment which is enjoying extraordinary success and consumer demand across Australia and overseas.
“In a very short time, Perth Gin has now not only established its credentials as a high-quality product but its flavours and style is acting as a true dual ambassador for the appeal of WA as a destination for wine, beer and spirit lovers, as well as its rare and unique flora.
“International awards like the SIP Awards firmly put Perth on the worldwide stage, with the flavours in Perth Gin reflecting the vibrancy of that city.”
Perth Gin’s sister craft gins distilled by Australian Distilling Co – Adelaide Gin, Brisbane Gin, Melbourne Gin and Sydney Gin – also came home with gold and silver medals for their own distinct flavours.
Following the success of Perth Gin and the widespread support from Western Australians, the spirit’s parent brand, Australian Distilling Co, has plans to continue producing award-winning spirits for Western Australians.
“We look forward to sharing the new products we’ve been developing, and think consumers will be excited by what’s to come, particularly Western Australians, who have been so supportive of Perth Gin to date. While we can’t yet reveal exactly what we have in the works, you’ll certainly be hearing from us again before the end of the year,” concludes Michael.
The award-winning Perth Gin is available to enjoy across Perth and WA, or available online at http://perthgin.com.au.
