This week, Perth’s renowned ‘blonde-whisperer’ Kim Haberley will throw open the doors to her showstopping salon, Boho Blonde.
Not many businesses are lucky enough to be booked out before they open, particularly during a pandemic and recession, but for Boho Blonde it’s business as usual.
With a hairdressing career spanning 13 years, in 2019 Kim branched out and set up a single chair in her home salon. The decision to go it alone quickly paid off, with Kim’s waitlist now exceeding 200 potential clients eager to attain the bright, creamy blonde tresses and brushed-out waves that have seen Boho Blonde gain a cult-like following in less than a year of business.
Among Kim’s loyal clientele are a number of Perth’s biggest beauty and lifestyle influencers, including YouTube star Kate Wasley and makeup artist Jaz Hand.
Kim credits Boho Blonde’s rapid growth to a laser-focused marketing strategy with Instagram and influencers at its core. Through scroll-stopping shots of freshly foiled locks and collaborations with local tastemakers, the salon obtained over 10,000 followers within 12 months of launching, as word quickly spread throughout Perth.
“Within a year I have gone from a single-chair home salon to a space with the capacity to service up to 10 clients at a time. I actually found our new location while all salons were shut due to COVID-19 and while it was scary committing to a big lease at that time, being closed gave me pause to put together a plan for the future direction of the business.”
“We have just brought on a new stylist and she is booked out for six weeks before she even starts. To ensure we can manage our existing client base, we have closed bookings until I am able to hire and train more stylists,” explains Kim Haberley.
The new 300 sqm space has been designed in collaboration with emerging interior designer Lizzie Boyle. Lizzie is now operating under her own venture, Studio Minima.
The result is a bright, welcoming and bold space, complete with custom furnishings, modern fittings, and playful pops of pink throughout.
“It was important to create a space as polished and fresh as the hair that walks out the salon doors,” says Lizzie Boyle.
“We’ve created ‘instagrammable’ moments and selfie-worthy spaces throughout, with neon signs, pink powder-coated bathroom fixtures and a luxurious waiting area complete with feminine and playful furnishings and a custom floor rug.”
Boho Blonde will commence operating from its new space this week, and while currently not taking bookings, Kim has plans to grow her team in the next month to keep up with demand.
Boho Blonde will also offer additional beauty services from September, with a dedicated brow and lash styling space on the salon’s top floor.
