10 Nights in Port – Festival of Fremantle 2022

Breaking through the surface and bursting into life, the Fremantle Festival: 10 Nights in Port returns during Djilba season, bringing new talent, emerging artists and established acts to the port city for an epic celebration in 2022 that will enliven the senses and warm the hearts and bodies of festival patrons.

Across 10 wintery nights and days from 11-21 August, Fremantle’s streets, venues, and hidden corners will come alive with contemporary music, giant immersive projections, protest exhibitions, roaming performances and stirring cultural experiences.

Here’s a selection of the key events

Light Waves

Light Waves is a dynamic audiovisual artwork which recreates primal oceanic forces in digital form. Stretching from the ground you stand on, to the surrounding surfaces, Light Waves will be a cinema and sound display of natural wonders in epic proportions.

We invite people to immerse themselves in the mesmerising giant slow-motion waves, peaking and crashing all around, naturally shifting between the calm and turbulence of the ocean it represents.

Created by projection artist Roly Skender from Frankensound, Light Waves is a playful reference to the power of the ocean and our relationship with it.

When: Friday 12 August to Sunday 21 August, 1pm to 7pm

Hidden Treasures

Hidden Treasures is a festival within a festival, and it’s the perfect opportunity to experience local music acts in beautiful and diverse Fremantle backdrops and stages.

Featuring specially selected gold from this talented state, Hidden Treasures is an institution that showcases those about to break BIG alongside local diamonds in the rough, dead set legends, little known youngsters, and real-life rock stars.

With 61 music acts over two nights, this year’s Hidden Treasures will be two jam-packed Thursdays. There will be street events, gigs in rarely seen venues and sessions in Fremantle’s Town Hall where you can witness the musical wealth of WA in all its isolated glory, diversity and talented power.

Purchase a ticket for the 11th August or 18th August and enjoy a night of musical extravagance across multiple iconic Freo venues. With RnB harmonies from Ken Paolo and the Space Cadets, catchy hooks from Alexia Parenzee and gypsy jazz with the Witchy Djypsies, there’s a delightful mixture of genres to suit everyone’s tastes.

When: Thursday 11 & 18 August.

One ticket grants a night’s entry to all Hidden Treasures venues and performances.

Yedi Moort with Walyalup Kannajil

Five choirs come together to share, translate and celebrate in Noongar language.

Bringing together choirs from across Perth, Yedi Moort, meaning ‘song family’, will be a choral performance led by Walyalup Kannajil Choir of popular hits sung in the Noongar language, including Paul McCartney’s Blackbird, showing us that music is the universal language.

Walyalup Kannajil is an inclusive community choir based in Fremantle led by Kobi Morrison. This well loved local choir will be joined by a Yedi Moort of other local Fremantle and Perth-based choirs including VoiceMale, Radujsja, Chordial Tones, Madjitil Moorna and more, to present a unique night of choral joy at the Fremantle Town Hall.

Led by director Kobi Morrison and creative producer Susie Waller the performance is the culmination of many months of collaboration and sharing between all the singing groups.

The passionate act of translating iconic tunes into Noongar gives new life and cultural meaning to the songs that will be performed.
