FOODIES OF FREO UNITE!

FREMANTLE’S BEST CHEFS JOIN FORCES FOR THE INAUGURAL GOURMAND STROLL

(Gourmand / noun / a person who enjoys eating and often eats too much)

Hosted by Fremantle’s cuisine kings, Peter Manifis (Kailis Fremantle), Scott Brannigan (Bread in Common) and Kenny McHardy (Manuka Woodfire Kitchen), The Gourmand Stroll is a 2.5 hour guided eating tour to three iconic Fremantle’s establishments, complete with matched wines.

With only 40 tickets available to this exclusive event, The Gourmand Stroll is an intimate and personal chef-driven experience designed for true foodies. It will take place on Saturday 14 November 2020.

The culinary trek through the port city will start at 2:00pm, kicking off at Kailis Fishmarket Café. Guests will be welcomed by Peter Manifis, who will brief guests on the order of the day while they enjoy seafood canape versions of classics from the Kailis Freo Menu: crispy oyster, bacon and sour cream brioche rolls; the infamous uni waffle with fresh uni, cream cheese, lime and shallots; and beer battered snapper with Kailis coleslaw. All washed down with Fish Shop Fizz or Island Market Pilsner while overlooking Fishing Boat Harbour.

Guests will then be guided by Manifis to Bread in Common, where Scott Brannigan will take the reins. Guests will feast on woodfired bread with house churned butter, smoked zucchini and sesame dip; house-made bresaola with chutney and pickles; and baby peppers with whipped feta and oregano – paired with Bread in Common Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. During the feast, Brannigan will talk to guests about breadmaking, the history of Bread in Common, it’s sister venue Coogee Common and sustainability in the kitchen.

Following a short stroll to Manuka Woodfire Kitchen, guests will be greeted by Kenny McHardy, who will serve slow-roasted Dorper lamb with smoked yoghurt and pickled red cabbage; wood roasted peaches with feta and honeycomb; and freshly baked flat bread with babaganoush – paired with Sittella 2018 Verdelho or Risky Business 2017 Shiraz. McHardy will give guests insights into his culinary ethos of cooking only with wood.

A fourth, yet-to-be launched, covert location will be the final stop on this tasty tour. Set to become an iconic part of Fremantle’s hospitality scene, guests will be taken on a tour and tasting at the mystery venue before the event concludes at 5:30pm.

Conceived by George Kailis, Managing Director Kailis Hospitality Group, The Gourmand Stroll is designed to bring Fremantle’s best culinary offerings together in a friendly showcase that gives guests the opportunity to really get know the incredible chefs behind these successful restaurants.
