JULIA – A powerful & gripping solo dance theatre work

JULIA is a force for action in raising awareness, calling for change, recognising we are “all entitled to a better standard than this”, and we are all part of making it happen.

JULIA is our response to Gillard’s experience as PM and her legacy. Our production builds on the momentum and wider culture of #metoo, and the frustration we feel as we continue to read, see, hear and experience sexism and misogyny, discrimination and violence today #choosetochallenge

JULIA will inform and inspire audiences to reflect on and consider how far we have come since Gillard’s 2012 infamous ‘Misogyny speech’, and significantly, how far we have still to go?

Now, more than ever, this compelling solo performance challenges us to consider the experiences of the women in our lives.

…And I say to the Leader of the Opposition I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. I will not. And the Government will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. Not now, not ever…and if he wants to know what misogyny looks like in modern Australia, he doesn’t need a motion in the House of Representatives, he needs a mirror. That’s what he needs. (Hon. Julia Gillard, 2012)
