Karl Halliday | AsiaPacific Photobook Archive

About Time is a photographic essay that speaks to the biographical dimension of vision as articulated through the heightened subjectivity of the camera. At once both fictive and factual, staged and sincere, About Time is a pursuit of personal myth and a testament to the fallacy of ‘truth’ in photography.

Karl Halliday is a photographer, curator and writer based between Naarm (Melbourne) and Boorloo (Perth). Karl’s work has been shown in exhibitions at leading photography institutions, including the Centre for Contemporary Photography and Monash Gallery of Art. Karl’s images have appeared in print magazines and journals including Popeye, Frankie and Brutus, as well as online publications. In 2020, Karl self-published his photobook, ‘Subjects: Selected Portraiture 2017-19’.

The Asia Pacific Photobook Archive (APPA) is a response to the European and American focus on photography and photobooks. The APPA is committed to promoting the production and dissemination of photobooks in the region. With over one thousand submissions, Collected Works focuses on interesting stories and clever dissemination of ideas that promote the materiality of the photobook.

The APPA is a not-for-profit open-access archive of self-published and independent photobooks. The APPA is a response to the boom in photographic self-publishing globally and was established to provide a ‘real’ way to see photobooks that would otherwise only be viewable online. The Archive has a dedicated space in Melbourne, Australia and is open to the public – importantly, the Archive is also a travelling library, meaning the books submitted travel the world to various festivals and institutions.
