The Art of Class

Design / Life

This Claremont furniture store – created by interior designers and architects – is an essential pit stop for design lovers and impossibly chic, everyday pieces.

We chat to Henri Living co-owner Lyle Henri about his fine taste in furniture.

Tell us about the concept for Henri Living?

Henri Living is a designer furniture store made up of designers. We believe furniture is an art form—both the design and craftsmanship—but not necessarily as a precious collectible. We want people to put their feet up on the lounge and read a book, to entertain friends without worrying about spilt gravy over the dining table. We believe interior design and designer furniture should enrich our lifestyle, not hamper it. It’s about design that’s well lived.

Who is involved in getting this venture off the ground?

We are a tight knit team made up of interior designers and architects who have a broad range of experience in both the commercial and residential sectors. This is important to us as our intention when starting our furniture store was never to ‘just sell furniture’ — we offer design expertise and solutions to our clients, large or small.

How is Henri Living unique within the Perth market?

Henri is a home-grown, family owned, independent design-based furniture store. I believe we are different by virtue of the individuals that make our team, our philosophy, our design service and our thoughtful curation. We allow for a larger market of enthusiasts to enjoy quality interior design and designer furniture in a friendly, warming environment.

With brands like Camerich, Desiree and Jesse, Harbour Outdoor, your line up is impressive. How did you curate this edit?

Our suite of indoor and outdoor furniture is curated for the everyday enthusiast and designer alike, with a range that spans acclaimed and establishing brands. An intuitive design sense guides the curation — we choose furniture that focuses on both aesthetic beauty and also the way it is going to work for our clients and their lifestyles. Again we look to help create spaces for people to live in, work in, be in and not just look at.

What can visitors expect of the showroom?

No highbrow verbosity or designer snobbery. Just human-to-human chit chat. We are a true community-based store welcoming everyone who walks through the door. We intently listen to and understand every customer’s situation. And we use our knowledge of design and product to show our customers a plethora of creative solutions, which can ultimately enrich their life and home.

On that note, just who is your buyer?

We are here for the enthusiasts, for the home and business owners who appreciate quality design and well-made pieces, those who have a taste for premium pieces as well as those looking for more affordable creative solutions.

Tell us about the highlight pieces you can’t wait for visitors to view?

I could go on forever talking about highlight pieces! But the current highlight for me is the Lovely Day sofa by Italian designer brand Désirée — a piece that is both stunning in form and function. It’s a beautiful sculptural piece, which is extremely comfortable and works so well in open-plan layouts in homes and office spaces. We have also recently launched two well-received ranges of built-in media units and storage solutions, including built in robes. Set at two different price points, both ranges allow clients to completely customise their storage solutions to suit their space. Our design team takes care of everything from measuring to installation.
