SISKA, the name given to a series of 5 maxi sloops built for and sailed by iconic WA sailor and businessman Rolland “Rolly” Tasker, has been re-ignited in the final stage of Perth luxury apartment developer and builder Gary Dempsey’s North Fremantle project at TASKERS LIVING.
The enclave is situated at the narrowest point between the Swan River and the Indian Ocean with commanding views of both waterways.
Siskas is the name given to the last tower in the complex of four luxury apartment buildings (all adopting the namesake of yachts that Rolly Tasker built and raced) and eight exclusive villas. Previously the location was home to Rolly Tasker’s last sail and spa loft in Perth – supplying sails and rigging to many of the world’s most well-known craft.
Tasker won Australia’s first sailing medal at the Melbourne Olympics and was controversially banned from the prestigious Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race aboard Siska. He sailed the race unofficially and beat the winner, Apollo’s time by some 20 hours!
Dempsey and Tasker started their long-standing relationship when Gary agreed to build Rolly’s dream Australian Sailing Museum in Mandurah while partnering on the redevelopment of the Tasker sail-making loft in North Fremantle.
The museum housed the extensive collection of sailing memorabilia amassed by Tasker over his many years in the sport. It included replicas of many of the America’s Cup contenders, hand built by the boat builders themselves.
He was very keen to see the North Fremantle site developed into an iconic development representing true luxury, but sadly died before the first of the five buildings was completed.
Ground was recently broken on the Siska namesake and Fabric Quarterly was treated to a helicopter flight from the Taskers site that took in the coast north to Scarborough where Dempsey has recently announced the development of luxury apartments in the prime beachside location to be in tune with his ultimate waterfront approach. We then flew south towards Cottesloe where he also has approval for another luxury beachside development on Marine Parade – and finally back around the Taskers enclave.
Expertly designed in collaboration with award-winning Craig Steere Architects and Zuiderveld Marchant Hur, Siskas is a collection of timeless residences perfectly crafted to embrace the ever-changing Swan River and Indian Ocean views
Gary fervently maintains the secret to his considerable success in a difficult market is that he has a full hands-on approach with control of the whole operation from design, development, building and finally sales & marketing. Every aspect of the development ensures that the highest quality finishes and futuristic technology is incorporated. Siskas boasts a eVTOL pad on the roof because Gary is a firm believer that owners will be able to commute by automised drones or helicopter to and from their home in the near future, and charging facility for electric cars. Full solar power services the apartments giving it a high level of sustainability. Double glazing throughout minimises heat transfer and reduces noise.
A new benchmark in apartment living it incorporates initiatives such as the first non-smoking community in WA.
Whilst the lower to middle end of the apartment market is suffering from an oversupply, the prestige end is tight and in demand. All apartments of the four completed Taskers offering are sold and primarily to owner- occupiers rather than investors, and already 40% of Siskas has been sold off-the-plan, a clear indicator of his select position in the market.
