Top Fringe Pick 2020!
Fringe icons in the making hit the stage in Yagan Square’s EDITH SPIEGELTENT for the WA Premiere of YUMMY UNLEASHED and whipped the crowd into a fringe frenzy last night. Their unique fusion of outrageous drag, fierce burlesque, to-die-for costume wizardry and phenomenal performances, make this hot-blooded ensemble a quintet of exhilaration.
Virtuoso Director Valerie Hex (aka James Welsby) led the 5 star troupe with charm and sass: dripping in 80’s fabulousness and calling the crowd to both arms and advocacy: balancing scintillation with heart-felt emotion as only a mast of sass can. And for good mix, partnering an audio experience too good to stay seated for.
Candy Delight in the form of a girl: Hannie Helsden. Weaving a spell over the crowd as ever more hoops descended upon her writhing bejeweled torso. Killer charm and a whole lot of sequins had the crowd biting their tongues and winking back with hunger for more.
Thought you knew how to make a sandwich? Dance performer and underground club icon Jandruze (James Andrews) could give Masterchef a makeover! Forever opening your eyes to just how much more you could be getting out of your daily lunch (as one lucky audience member discovered..). Hilarious doesn’t cover the laugh-out-louds this performer delivers.
Dita Von Teese soloist Zelia Rose pulled off more costume reveals in one act then you’re likely to have ever seen, proving herself worthy of her 2019 title: #1 Burlesque Performer of the Top 50 Worldwide (21st Century Burlesque). Sinuous and delicious, just a millimeter short of contortion, her acrobatic zeal firmly stamps her name as Australia’s most coveted showgirl.
Circus Oz performer Adam Malone took his kinky boots to a new high. Single-handedly fusing drag, circus and dance with his own brand of acro-drag tête en bas. On a Washington trapeze no less. That’s got to be a Fringe First!
Word on the street for the hottest Fringe seat… Absurd and hilarious. Fabulous and outrageous. This is spectacular Fringe at it’s best. Life is dull without the Yummy. And Unleashed is certainly better..
