Frozen the Musical Avalanches into Crown Perth

Design / Life

A night filled with magic, laughs and fun for all ages. Disney’s Frozen has officially arrived in Perth with opening night set to be later this month. Lead actor, Courtney Monsma (Anna), quotes the production as being a night out that is filled with fun for everyone, even for the grown men that laugh along and enjoy the night just as much as their kids.

The intricate production that has been produced by Thomas Schumacher for Disney Theatrical Productions brings the magic of the movie itself to life. The set, costumes and actors are all key elements that have influenced the rave reviews across the country. With eight shows a week, Jemma Rix (Elsa) and Courtney keep the acting fresh and alive for each performance. They both commented that “they are very similar actors, which makes it very easy to work together on stage” – their playful nature within their acting always keeps the energy high for their performances.

Although each actor has had lead roles in both Wicked (Jemma) and Six (Courtney), they have adapted to a Disney leading lady role almost seamlessly. As mentioned by Courtney, the overarching messages around women empowerment are similar within the two roles.  Jemma’s role in the Wizard of Oz as the Wicked Witch of the West, is one where she could utilise more creativity towards a role and push the limits of being dramatic. This has contributed to building the character of Elsa.

The stage production of Frozen is 2.5 hours long – much longer than the original movie – and features 12 new original songs by legendary songwriters Oscar winner Kristen Anderson Lopez and the youngest EGOT in the world, Bobby Lopez. One song, Monster, performed at the sneak preview event at Crown, is sung by Jemma in the musical and allows for a deeper exploration into what makes Elsa who she is and the development of her character. Unlike other songs that are seen within the movie, this song delves into different genres such as rock. This is one of several big power ballads that Jemma sings in the show – including of course – Let It Go at the end of Act 1.

Showing at Crown Perth from 25th August 2022, Frozen is a production that is not to be missed!  It is suitable for older children aged 5 and up, with much humour and magic to be expected from the audience. With Oscar winning original songs, a seasoned and talented Australian cast filled with experience and a phenomenal set it is going to be the production of the year for Perth audiences.
