ICS Australia scoop trio of awards for build of local venues in prestigious Master Builders Awards
The Booragoon based builder has been recognised with a trio of awards in WA’s premier construction awards – the Master Builders Association of WA Excellence in Construction Awards.
The boutique building firm was awarded for its work behind innovative new Fremantle hospitality venues Gage Roads and Jetty Bar.
ICS Australia’s Director, Craig Peterson, said that the company was encouraged to have won awards in all three categories they had entered into.
“We are proud to have taken home three awards in this year’s Master Builder Awards. These awards show that excellence and craftsmanship is still very much a part WA’s building industry in what has been a challenging and tumultuous year for the sector.”
“Gage Roads and Jetty Bar are equally unique and ambitious in their approach to design and construction. These builds made smart and sustainable use of prime yet underutilised riverside space to create venues which have become a major attraction to Fremantle.”
Gage Roads, which received two awards, saw the 100-year-old heritage listed A-Shed adapted into a waterfront venue which has unlocked some of the best views in Fremantle. Built in 1926, the A-Shed makes up one of the last remaining sets of early 20th century port cargo sheds in the world. The $10m flagship microbrewery has created a 3,600sqmt venue with capacity for 1,500 patrons and a 25- hectolitre brew kit with 16 tanks.
Jetty Bar, which sits on the edge of the Swan River, was a first of its kind build in WA. Construction saw the the timber framework of the bar erected in only one day. Made almost entirely from sustainable, locally grown timber, construction resulted in a carbon offset of 9.8 tonnes making it one of Western Australia’s most sustainably designed and built venues.
Leading the way in the local construction industry with a focus on unique projects, ICS Australia has delivered recent hospitality venues such as Subiaco Continental, Dandelion, Al Lupo and the Quarter Acre Tavern, as well as iconic past projects like Little Creatures Fremantle.
The Master Builder Association of WA Excellence in Construction Awards showcase the highest quality construction projects across the state. With almost 80 entries submitted, 2023’s judging panel was led by industry figure Robert Shaw of Daly & Shaw Builders.

- Best Historic Restoration or Refurbishment – Gage Roads, $5m – 10m
- Best Retail Building – Gage Roads, $5m – 10m
